21 Duel Blackjack

It is surely duel and a bit of challenge initially to learn this game if you are primarily a traditional type player. The twist in this variation is there is no Blackjack meaning that any hand combination totaling 21 is just that – 21, regardless if it is an ace and 10 point card or not. However, there is a Bonus bet.

Dealer is dealt 2 down, player 1 up/1 down and 2 communal cards are placed in the center of table. A player can opt to fold or use up card to play one of the communal cards after placing a bet equal to original bet. At this point stand or hit and your down card is in play and part of your hand in which you then stand.

Dealer turns one card over and plays one of the communal cards, if 17 stands, if not hits and turns up his second down card. If the total hand count is less than 13 player wins 1:1 on original bet and push on second bet. Player loses both bets when dealer has higher than 12 and is higher than the player’s hand. Both hands equaled is a push on both bets.

*Place an optional Bonus side bet on three cards up after deal. Win 3:1 for a pair and 20:1 when all three cards match.

Blackjack Surrender

This fun variation is played in the typical standard rules with one unique exception; players are allowed to Early Surrender. This is to the player’s advantage because they lose only half their bet when surrendering after the dealer shows Blackjack on the initial deal.

Dealer stands on 17 and player may split all pairs but not re-split. After the split Blackjack is no longer recognized, instead is considered 21. Double down permitted before and after the split for bet size equal to first bet. Lose bet when dealer shows an ace and gets Blackjack. Win your bet back when dealer shows 10 point card and hits Blackjack. Insurance is only available when dealer shows an ace up.

Dealer gets 2 cards face down and stands on hard 17 and hits on soft 17. The player must hit on anything under 15. Split is permitted on pairs and if split aces are dealt a ten point card it counts as Pontoon, a nice rule that most other variations consider it as 21 only.
